Wath : Removing of Foot Jigger

Jackton’s jigger woes emanate from the harsh conditions set for him by his step mother. He has had jiggers as long as everyone can remember, in fact, his nick name is ‘jigger man’ in the village. We have plans of getting his house cemented. We already provided him with bedding, but that’s not enough, apparently. He needs the house cemented and cows taken away to another room. There are some major challenges but we’re doing all we can in our power to help Jackton, who has been disappearing from home for days, spending at funerals where he gets some love, music and free food. I said I would do the same if I lived in his conditions. It is so sad seeing him in all that suffering. This video is intended for educational purposes and to raise awareness of the health problems that jiggers cause in Africa.

MEDICAL CONDITION: The condition depicted is known as “Tungiasis”. It is an infestation of the skin by a burrowing flea. These fleas tend to infest those who have inadequate living conditions and sanitation. The flea lives both outside around warm-blooded mammals and inside poorly constructed homes. It inhabits dust on floors, cracks in walls and bedding. Shoes protect to some degree but are often not affordable or adequate.
